Libraries Without Borders launches BSF Campus !

On Tuesday, November 3rd, Libraries Without Borders launched the “BSF Campus,” a unique learning platform that will enable library and information professionals, and cultural entrepreneurs from French-speaking countries to access free training sessions and capacity-building tools.

Financed by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, BSF Campus offers contents that have been created by experienced professionals in the fields of libraries, innovation, new technologies, management, advocacy and assessment.

Through its work, Libraries Without Borders promotes the idea that libraries have much more to offer than a simple collection of books. Throughout the world, they can provide free access to the latest educational, entrepreneurial, cultural and information tools, as well as to new technologies and the Internet. In fact, libraries play today a very important role in the fight against inequalities and social transformation.

By creating BSF Campus, LWB aims to provide French-speaking library professionals, and especially  those with little or no prior training in countries of the South, with the tools to get increase their skills and become entrepreneurs capable of promoting change and push key initiatives in  education, training, social inclusion and community mobilization. Two curriculums, called “The Library: Basic Knowledge” and “Cultural mediation and facilitation” are already available with more to come in December and March.

The platform will be also accessible offline via the KoomBook, a new-generation, ultraportable and autonomous offline digital library created by Libraries Without Borders. The first KoomBook will be implemented starting in November 2015 in Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Senegal, the three partner nations home to the 34 young people who will receive training and support from LWB during 15 months in the context of the Young Leaders Program.
