Supporting a youth center library in Chad

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The population of the town of Abéché has underwent exponential growth over the past five years, with the creation of a university and a technical training college as well as the arrival of large numbers of humanitarian workers and military personnel in response to the crisis in nearby Darfur  The Youth Center is meant to be a convivial place where high school and university students from the town’s various ethnic and religious groups can meet and intermix. It represents one of the only sites for accessing reading and information in Abéché.

In response to a glaring lack of books and staff training, LWB has supported the reorganization of the Center’s libraries and the extension of the reading network in the region of Ouaddaï.

  • Collecting and contributing 5000 books (textbooks and manuals).
  • Training Youth Center staff in bookbinding, collection maintenance and how to run a library.
